The most known Korean side dish is Kimchi. Korean side dishes are also known as “banchan”. You will find below a traditional Korean side dish recipe for Japchae created by my Korean grandmother.

  • Glass Noodles (Sweet Potato Starch Noodle)
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Carrot
  • Spinach
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic
  • Soy Sauce
  • Sesame Oil
  • Sugar
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Sesame Seeds
  • 200 grams of beef

Japchae Recipe Directions

  1. Soak the glass noodles in hot water for about 10 minutes
  2. Drain the noodles
  3. Boil water
  4. Drop the glass noodles into the pot of boiling water for half a minute
  5. Rinse the noodles in cold water
  6. Heat up a pan
  7. Add sesame oil
  8. Cook the onion, carrot, red bell pepper, garlic, sugar, and beef
  9. Add salt and pepper to your taste
  10. Keep stirring until the meat and vegetables are cooked
  11. Transfer the vegetables to a large bowl.
  12. Add the noodles and spinach
  13. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds and combine.
